Valentino Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pierpaolo Piccioli will be receiving the CFDA Award for International designers of the year...and this comes as to no surprise to us.
After the departure of Valentino Garavani, in 2007, the company’s new owners, private equity firm Permira, struggled to find the right creative leadership for the business. Though still a red carpet favourite, the brand was unable to reclaim the international cachet it once had. But since 2008, when Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli took the reins as co-creative directors, the duo have taken the fashion industry by surprise, breathing new creative energy into the brand and rocketing Valentino back to the forefront of fashion. Sales have improved, and lucrative accessories now account for nearly half of sales in some stores. They have also revitalized the menswear business.
Back in late April i had the opportunity to team up with fashion blogger and influencer Negin Mirsalehi in Milan for a rare shoot featuring this Valentino dress on the streets of Milan as we also took over the Valentino Snapchat account.
We started the shoot at the rooftop of the famous Duomo in Milan during the eve of the Expo Launch and finished off the Arco della Pace monument. The Shoot was broadcasted live on the Snapchat account of @Maison Valentino and @Negin_Mirsalehi.
It only seemed appropriate for us to release the shoot today as Valentino Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli receive the esteemed CFDA Award for International designers of the year at Lincoln Center.
