3.1 Phillip Lim Menswear Spring 2014
Florals and checks seem to predominate 3.1 Phillip Lim’s menswear collections, and the designer didn’t stray far from his comfort zone for his latest foray. This past fall, panels mixed with flowers to create darker baroque designs. For Spring 2014, the idea is the same, though colors are vibrant and bubbly, infused with reds, turquoises, and navies, and anchored by cool whites.

The offerings kicked off with gingham checks, spied on button down blouses, loose fits pants, and knee grazing shorts. The patterns evolved from checks to stripes, and ended with a wonderful symphony of prints, mixing floral pants, for example, with a beige and black striped tunic and a checked scarf. Taken together or separately, the pieces are sure to make an impact.

A few delectable outerwear options will undoubtedly bubble up in the wardrobes of brand devotees. A rib shouldered leather creation mixing green, blue, and cream will fit perfectly in the closet of a rocker type, as will a black lambskin creation with fringed sleeves. An ebony varsity jacket ribbed in yellow stripes along with a marigold bomber could work for a girl or a guy with singular swagger.

For those less bold, Lim provided a few staples: slouchy black pants, wide knit tops emblazoned with large lightning bolts, perforated hoodies, and loose fit chinos. But for every neutral look, there were three more for the adventurous gentleman: mixed media close fit pants, blue striped pants made for lounging, and any number of floral decorated separates.
