Helmut LangSpring Summer 2014 New York

Runway Review
9/7/2013 Ed Kavishe/fashionwirepress.com

An exercise in modern minimalism, Nicole and Michael Colovos found inspiration in the works of contemporary artist Wade Guyton, who is known for his linear work and minimally graphic approach to art. Working with sharp, clean lines, the collection is cool and slouchy. Playing with proportions, sharp on top and slouchy and loose on the bottom, makes for a cool tomboy effect. Lengths are elongated, the clothes hang perfectly away from the body while being unstructured, straight and sharp.

Wool and leather is bonded in jersey for an easy yet sharply tailored look. Slouchy boyfriend fine-cut leather trousers and oversized silhouettes balanced with high slits give a lighter feel. The t-shirt is re-interpreted in tightly constructed chintz cotton as well as a leather version to elevate the classic basic. Fabrics for spring are crisp and pure; Chintz linen and sheer silk organza add to the lux factor of the collection.

For accessories, the designers launched a new line of handbags in a range of bonded are perforated leathers to textural skins. Stingray wraps around clutches and the perfect flat sandal. Shoes range from touch heel to a menswear inspired slip-on loafer.
