Ohne TitelSpring Summer 2015 New York

Runway Review

Surfing is having a moment in fashion: neoprene has been used by almost every brand up until this point, those high-neck, long-sleeve crop tops that are so coveted are just spins on the classic rashguard, and Beyoncé's "Surfboard" lyric is pretty much a household term. Alexa Adams and Flora Gill of Ohne Titel have jumped onto the surfing bandwagon, coupling the sport with their signature urban sophistication. Movement was also a huge influence for their Spring offerings - seen in the sultry fringe and flouncy skirts of their collection's first few looks.

Prints were a cornerstone, including colorful leopard on skirted capris, stripes on barely-there mini dresses, and undulating waves on a sophisticated yet bold button-front shirt and trouser duo: the latter harking back to the brand's oceanic inspiration. Colorful tie sandals hit both at the ankle and the upper leg, sure to be among the season's most crave-worthy accessories.

No surf-influenced lineup would be fully realized without swimwear and though not always water-ready, bikinis with retro-inspired high-waist bottoms and leather, body-contouring halter tops mimicked those designs worn at sea. Cutout bodysuits layered under pencil skirts, crop tops, and hot pants added to that sultry sensibility.

Ohne Titel has excelled in the mesh department for many seasons now and the sporty chic material uplifted sheer tops falling above the navel, simple tanks, sweatshirts, and zip-front mini skirts here. Blazers with mesh insets were instantaneous wardrobe staples while mini dresses with hems in the athletic-inspired fabric were essentials for the celebrity set who love to accentuate their curves.

The brand's customers want functional pieces that are technologically-advanced, yet standout and Adams and Gill delivered a few times over. Just hitting the thirty look mark, the Ohne Titel woman could really chew on the ensembles at hand and absorb their message - the appeal of a wardrobe whose foundation is grounded in sport but the energy of one that can still work for work and play. Not an easy dichotomy, but one that the brand continues to achieve time and time again.
