Catherine Martin Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby- by Ed Kavishe

Baz Luhrmann's new film The Great Gatsby (which took 4 years in the making) premiered to a standing ovation at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center this past Wednesday. This 1974 adaptation of the Great Gatsby back then starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow which was then dressed by Ralph Lauren is a true masterpiece to F Scott Fitzgerald's vision of a "concealed incompatible dream".

The Costume collaboration done by Miuccia Prada and Catherine Martin (Mr Luhrmann's wife) who also did Moulin Rouge is absolutely brilliant. The 23 dresses are now displayed at the Prada Flagship store in Soho. The exhibit embodies the true brilliance and elegance of Miuccia Prada herself and her creations which has been a true statement spanning decades.

We took the Liberty to Photograph the exhibit before the Gatsby Opens up in Theatres Worldwide Next Friday May 10th, in it you can view the details of the collection with statements from each Character that worn the costume.

QUOTES FROM THE PREMIER:

Baz Luhrmann (Producer & Director): "That book (The Great Gatsby) is now, that book is us. The book reflects who we are, where we are now. Its always relevant now. I just wanted to find a way of doing it like as if it was Fitzgerald making the movie, but really when you are talking about that character with those qualities there wasn't much of a list, so it was always gonna be Leonardo.

Tobey Maguire (Nick Carraway): "It was great, getting the call from Leonardo going hey, you wanna get together and chat with me and Baz about doing The Great Gatsby? there was only one answer Yes".

Isla Fisher (Myrtle Wilson): " The jazz age, the excess, the folly, the pleasure the fun, it was just larger then life, it was Baz's world, putting on the costumes and getting to play around with them was a lot of fun"

Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan):" I wish the boys still dressed like how they did back in the 1920's, really spiffy suit's, 3 piece suit's and canes and straw hats....i think Yes to that"

Joel Edgerton (Tom Buchanan):"Definitely had the feeling of living inside that craziness in the 20's because the combination of Baz and Catherine Martin from the set to props to the costumes, you felt moving inside the set"

Leonardo Dicaprio (Jay Gatsby): "Gatsby is the seminole American novel, it sort of defines America in the 1920's, kinda predicted the stock market crash that soon came right after, and at the center of it all is this complex mysterious excess character know as Great Gatsby- EVERYONE HAS A LITTLE GATSBY IN THEM

If you are in New York City its a must see if not you can view the collection here on our site.
