RICHARD CHAI - Glammy grunge

Grunge went glam at Richard Chai's Fall / Winter 2014 collection. To open, Chai gave a wooly plaid tee a feminine twist, layering it over a delicate plisse top and wine-hued floral jacquard trousers. Grandpa's favorite plaid robe was reincarnated as a chic oversized cocoon coat for the third look, while Chai played dainty plisse skirts off of structured jacquard blazers and leather vests for a good hard-soft ratio. Employing a varied mix of autumnal fabrics, Chai used textures that ranged from thick and matte to light, sheeny and iridescent. Silhouettes were loose and easy when it came to blouses and dresses, while pants and blazers tended to skim the body.

Chai's menswear hit some of the same notes: beanies and roughly laced booties with exposed socks accounted for the grunge factor, while slim trousers and structured jackets added tailored elegance.
