ThakoonSpring Summer 2015 New York

Runway Review

So much joy and energy went into Thakoon Panichgul's Resort 2015 collection, that those same sentiments spilled right over into Spring. The designer sharpened his flair for mixed prints and injected fringe feather embellishment for whimsy.

Florals have been given the leafy vine treatment this season and the brand captured that iteration of the classic pattern right out of the gate, on a knee-length long sleeve frock, those coveted culottes, a cold-shoulder blouse accented with functional drawstrings, and a flare hem midi skirt that screamed vacation. Those prints were alternated with silk, polka dotted-pieces for an interesting contrast between the beach and the boudoir. Ankle-tie wedges were used throughout for constant elevation and polish.

Furry fringe embellishment was thrown on flirty pleated dresses, cozy knits, striped skirts, and frocks of the same ilk: quite eccentric and not the most practical but certainly the pieces made for snaps by street style photographers. And those stripes? Yes, they made their way into another Spring collection - this time on a long layer-perfect sleeveless vest, leg-baring mini skirt, and pinstriped on a strapless tunic. Thakoon has been playing with the timeless bands for a few seasons now and he succeeded in making them standout here.

Panichgul scaled back on color to close the show, sticking to a palette of black and white in both larger scale polka dots and edgy zigzags. A collarless jacket and figure-skimming braid-accented bodice dress were simultaneously exceptional and truly "ready" to wear.

The collection was definitely a hit: chock full of all of the reasons why the industry and stylish women the world over have such love for the brand.
